The Courage to be Disliked Book Summary

Introduction (Book Cover Photo)

Hi Success Titan reader, I’m Sal Damiata, and that’s the book summary of “The courage to be disliked” by Ichiro Kishimi. Enjoy your read!

Who’s This Book For?

  • Everybody struggling with pursuing their authentic life path because they care too much about what other’s think of them.
  • Everybody stuck in a competitive mindset and always trying to impress people.
  • Everybody suffering from low self-worth.

What You’ll Learn from It

  • How to live your own life with authenticity and freedom
  • How to move forward in this world and enjoy the process of growing
  • How to develop healthy and long-lasting human relationships

The Book in a Nutshell

In this world we are not just lonely individuals but part of a bigger community where everybody should contribute to the wellbeing of others, without competing with others. Don’t let your past negative influence your future negatively, but take charge of your life by living it without trying to impress others.

3 Sentence-Summary

  • Ichiro Kishimi stresses a lot on the idea that you don’t have to believe the lie that your past will determine your future. You always have the ability to change and to become whoever you want to be today because who you think you are is totally under your control.
  • Stop competing with others and start becoming a better version of yourself everyday more. You know, competition amongst human being might seem to improve performances but in reality it just makes humans more miserable and always in search for a better position.
  • Live according to your true desires and values instead of trying to please others. Sometimes it might be hard to go our own way as this might disappoint your loved ones but we have no choice if we want to truly live a fulfilling life.

Big Ideas

Let’s now explore together the most relevant ideas expressed in the book.

Big Idea #1: Don’t let your past determine your future (Photo 1)

If you don’t make a decision to change today, then you’ll most probably delay your change until it will never occur. We all have an inner power to decide who we want to be in our future, yet most people don’t exercise that power as we should. As bad as it might sound, if you didn’t change so far is not because you can’t change but because you didn’t really want to change deep down. Otherwise, you’d have already found a way to, according to Ichiro Kishimi.

All you have to do now is to make a decision to change your lifestyle and habits with courage. Only then your past won’t be able to influence your future anymore. Don’t wait for the perfect time to arrive as it will never come, take your decision today and burn your past behind you.

A Relatable Example

I’ve always been affected by the negative sides of my past, for example, of the times when I was bullied or when girls didn’t pay attention to me. Anyway, if one dreadful day, being depressed and at the bottom of my life, I didn’t decide to change my life for the better, I wouldn’t be here writing this article. I can’t thank all the people that influenced me positively and gave me the courage to change enough as, even if it wasn’t an easy journey, it has been totally a worthwhile one. Stop letting your past control your future as tomorrow you are not supposed to be the same person you are today.

Big Idea #2: Live your own life no expectations, no approval (Photo 2)

If you are constantly living to please others instead of pleasing yourself first, you’ll get in the constant loop of reward/punishment. This entails that every time you do something considered good, you will receive positive feedback while every time you do something considered bad, you’ll receive negative feedback. Anyway, what’s good and what’s bad are concepts that are generally given to us by other people’s standards.

It’s not good to satisfy other people’s expectations as you will throw away who you really are and waste this precious life of yours. Do you believe that if you live this way you go against the natural system with which our society works? No, because you actually do damage to society only when you do things that you don’t really want to do but only to satisfy other people’s expectations. This means that happiness can never be reached this way as you will always be under pressure and afraid to disappoint other people.

A Relatable Example

When I was younger, I thought to be a confident and mature boy, well aware of what I wanted from life. In fact, all I desired back then was to become a successful military pilot. When I got to the Italian Air Force Academy after passing all the tests, I realized that that kind of life wasn’t what I really wanted. So I enrolled in a business school in Rome as I knew I wanted to become a rich and successful manager. Once I got accepted in college, I realized studying economics wasn’t my real thing, and so I found myself back on the starting point.

I started reflecting on why I had made those choices thus far and the answer came to me after some deep thinking; “Recognition and ego” seemed to be the answer. I had such low self-esteem that my entire life revolved around the idea of doing something recognized by society so that others would love and accept me. This made me lose not only a great deal of my money and energies but also the precious time I had that could have been spent on doing what I really wanted. That’s when I decided to stop working for others and started my own personal development business. How I feel today compared to how I felt back then is priceless as living a life that’s truly authentic to you is one of the most rewarding things you can experience.

Big Idea #3: Competitive societies are destructive. (Photo 3)

In order to get out of the competitive framework, you have to start walking your own path at your own pace. To make this easier to understand, imagine like everybody is walking equally at the same flat place but at different speeds. You don’t have to walk behind somebody as this would mean you’re taking their path and not your own. The pursuit of superiority doesn’t mean being better than somebody else, it means to keep moving forward towards your own path as life is nor a competition neither a comparison game.

A healthy feeling of inferiority doesn’t come from comparing yourself to others, but it comes to comparing you to your ideal self. As Ichiro Kishimi puts it, we are all equal but not the same as we had different experiences and circumstances; thus, the real value is in getting beyond who you are now and not into getting beyond somebody else.

Even if you are a winner, living in the competition is such a waste of your time as you’ll be terrified of losing your status and thus you’ll never be in peace. You can’t trust other people and be happy as you will tend to see everybody as an enemy. Instead, if you are a loser living in the competition, you’ll never be enough, again driven by negative feelings to push yourself forward.

A Relatable Example

In my past years, and honestly, during some low moments today, I used to compare myself to other people and to think that I always had to do better than the next guy with women, in business, and with life in general. This mindset robbed me of a lot of serenity and energy because instead of focussing on what truly mattered and could influence (my happiness), I focussed on how I could do better than others. Realize that nobody really cares about what you do or how you look as most people are too self-absorbed to think about others. When you realize this, you’ll get closer to authentic freedom and to a mindset that will make you do whatever you want.

Big Idea #4: How you see yourself matters (Photo 4)

Every human being on this planet has some imperfections to one extent or another. The problem anyway is not the imperfection per se but our attitude towards those imperfections. When you perceive yourself as imperfect or even hate your imperfection, it’s inevitable that you’ll be creating some levels of self-hatred.

According to Ichiro Kishimi, when a person feels he has worth his courage will emerge and this person will be more likely to become successful and a contributor to society. One way to feel worthy is by feeling you’re beneficial to the community and be of help to the life of somebody else. That’s what truly differentiates a worthy individual from an unworthy one, according to the author.

A Relatable Example

If I think of all the times when I felt worthy and happy to be part of this planet, it was when somebody genuinely thanked me for having done something good for them. This makes me reflect on the truth of the words of Ichiro Kishimi and of how important it is for each one of us to feel like we’re contributing, at the level we can, to the improvement of life on earth. That’s why I love what I’m doing with Success Titan, it’s a way for me to grow and to help others do the same, and I can tell you that this is priceless compared to simply doing things just for yourself.

Big Idea #5: You’re part of a bigger community (Photo 5)

Interpersonal relations must be cultivated as a way to make us feel part of a bigger community. Since all problems are relationship problems, according to Adlerian psychology, since relationships are the source of both unhappiness and happiness, you will solve the majority of those problems by contributing to the community.

One piece of advice that the author gives us is not to pump our egos because if we can only be happy by acknowledging to be part of a community, we should think about what we can give to the world instead of taking from it.

He also wants us to realize that nobody is the center of the universe in its absolute sense, neither you and I. We are one of the many centers of the universe and a part of it along with animals, plants, and minerals. The danger of thinking to be the center of the universe is that you will tend to act in a way where you’ll see people as instruments that will only do something for you. Since an ego, that big can never be satiated; it’s better to think about what you can give to the world and instead of just taking from it and be satisfied by the act of giving.

We all have the need to feel like we belong to a place, you also need to have this sense of belonging and feel that it’s ok to be here. Remember anyway that you are a member of the community and the world’s protagonist, not only your life protagonist, as other people are not here to satisfy your expectations.

A Relatable Example

Ichiro Kishimi makes an example of the classic map of the world vs globe to represent the earth territory. If you consider the classic map, wherever you’ll stay will constitute the center of the world for you as you’ll see your position with your reference point only. Anyway, if you consider a globe, whatever point you take can be considered as the center of it while not being the absolute center.

When I understood this concept, I realized that I am more than just an Italian man. I am part of the entire globe as the Italian geographic boundaries have just been drawn based on how past wars and agreements went, not based on how the universe really is. This means that we’re not simply citizens of our own country as those boundaries we created are just illusions created by the same deluded mind.

Conclusion & Takeaway

Hope you liked this summary of “The courage to be disliked.” The main takeaways from this book are that you can change from the person you were yesterday, but it will require courage from you and endurance to pain. Stop competing with others as, in reality, you are your own competition. Let go of other’s approval and reduce your ego to the point where you realize to be part of a bigger community where your contribution is both needed and precious. Live in the moment and stop getting obsessing with yourself, instead try to give and help others, and an authentic sense of importance will naturally arise.

My Personal Advice (Book Summary’s Writer Photo)

I believe that the first thing you should put into practice is realizing that there’s no competition to beat out there. When you realize this, you won’t see others as enemies, and thus, you’ll be naturally prone to help them out in their journeys. Another advice I want to give you is to observe the lives of the people you know.

Are they all the same or maybe everybody here has his own purpose? Where do usually the people that try to copy others end up? Who are the happiest people on the planet, according to you? Reflect on this and let us know your thoughts.

Leaders Eat Last Book Summary

Introduction (Book Cover Photo)

Hi Success Titan reader, I’m Sal Damiata, and that’s the book summary of “Leaders Eat Last” by Simon Sinek. Enjoy your read!

Who’s this book for? (Pain, Problem, Lack)

  • Everybody who’s struggling with maintaining a good and effective leadership position.
  • People hating their jobs, company culture, or family environment.
  • People that find it hard to create sustainable human relationships.

What you’ll learn from this book (Benefit, Fill, Solution)

  • How to become a true leader that inspires others to follow you genuinely.
  • How hormones shape human behavior, choices, and actions.
  • How to better manage yourself, others, and create healthier working and living environments.

The book in a nutshell

  • Leaders are supposed to eat last because the very definition of a leader is a person that is willing to put his needs last to protect the tribe and lead it towards a shared vision and purpose through mutual collaboration, respect, and trust.

Three sentence summary

  • If you want to be an effective leader, the secret lies in creating an environment where everybody starts to trust you. Creating an environment where making mistakes is allowed and where people are not judged and where an environment of trust and cooperation is established.
  • The secret to leadership success lies in balancing our “selfish” hormones with our “selfless” ones so that we become balanced people being both effective and with our human warmth.
  • A true leader of a company should put people first so that they feel safe and work in an environment promoting progress triggered by cooperation instead of progress triggered by the terror of being fired.

Big Ideas

Those are the most relevant ideas expressed in the book that we’ll explore together.

  1. Our need for hierarchy is rooted in our biology
  2. Balance your hormones
  3. Good vs. bad leadership
  4. Trust and Empathy are Essential
  5. Companies should put people first

Let’s explore them together now:

Big Idea #1: Our need for hierarchy is rooted in our biology (Photo 1)

We are human beings endowed with reasoning faculties beyond the ones that animals have; anyway, the majority of our behavior has been dictated and is still dictated by our hormones. They, in fact, control our emotions and moderate our behavior according to the circumstances where we find ourselves and are there to help us survive firstly and thrive secondly.

We need hierarchies because they create the basis for a group formation. Being part of a group makes us feel safe, and it’s only when we operate under safety conditions that we can grow. That’s when we are more creative, more collaborative, and more in tune with one another. This means that the priority in any society is to make people feel safe. That “circle of safety” must be determined by leaders so that they can create the boundaries for a safe environment where people share the same value systems and fight for those values.

If you want to be an effective leader, the secret lies in creating an environment where everybody starts to trust you. Creating an environment where making mistakes is allowed and where people are not judged and where an environment of trust and cooperation is established. That being the case, our natural hierarchical nature will be effective and create the stable conditions that we all humans look for.

A Relatable Example

Have you ever seen how, when you get into a new group where nobody knows each other, people naturally tend to understand who the leader is in that group? That’s because we are wired in such a way to create effective social structures amongst us humans, and we do this with our innate hierarchical instinct.

Next time you will find yourself in a new group where nobody knows each other, pay close attention to how people will be busy trying to figure out who the leaders in that group might be.

Big Idea #2: Balance Your hormones (Photo 2)

If you thought that your behavior was mostly driven by your conscious thoughts, think again. Your hormones, in fact, play a massive role in the determination of how we feel, think, and subsequently act. Simon Sinek outlines 4 different hormones that we are subject to; Dopamine, Endorphins, Serotonin, and Oxytocin. The first two of those hormones are defined by him as “selfish” hormones, while the other two are the “selfless” hormones. Let’s see what their effects are in our bodies.

1: Dopamine is the hormone that makes us feel good after having completed a task. It gives us that feeling of accomplishment, just like when you tick your to-do list or when you reach a milestone being part of a long-term project. Dopamine is a selfish chemical because you don’t actually need anyone to get it released. Those are the selfless and social chemicals. Responsible for trust, loyalty, and cooperation.

2: Endorphins have the function to disguise exhaustion and pain as pleasure. That’s why when you work out until you’re exhausted, you feel really good, or whenever you surpass your physical limits from the previous ones, you feel that rush of that hormone. That’s a way or biology kept the hunters fit and got them back to hunting so that they could provide for the whole tribe as long as possible.

The problem with the two hormones above is that feelings don’t last much, and we’ll be too selfish if we only produce those hormones, thus being corrupt leaders. Let’s now explore the other 2 hormones.

3: Serotonin is the hormone that gives us the feeling of status, pride, and self-confidence. To trigger the production of this hormone, public events are a great way as public recognition makes us produce it. This hormone plays a vital role as when produced, it reinforces the relationship between coach-player, father-son, and leader-follower, creating healthy and stable mutual relationships.

4: Oxytocin is the hormone of love, trust, loyalty warm, and all that fairy tales and unicorn things that women love especially. It is released through physical contact like high fives, hugs, kisses, etc. This hormone boosts the immune system and makes us feel great, that’s why one of the best things you can do is doing something nice for somebody else on purpose. Moreover, it has been found that the more oxytocin we have in our system and the more good we wanna make, and the smarter we become as oxytocin engages our frontal lobe.

Those are the selfless chemicals instead, promoting human connection, trust, and stability. The secret, according to Sinek, lies in balancing our selfish hormones with our selfless ones in our bodies so that we become balanced beings and effective leaders. We would never be complete or totally efficient with an imbalance either on the selfish or the selfless side.

A Relatable Example

The classic example of a leader being full of selfish hormones is one that only sees profit over people and doesn’t care at all about people’s health. Those are the typical leaders we see today in most companies that are causing lots of harm to their employees due to their over-competitive mindset and environment they create. Progress anyway is essential to human development, that’s why we need a leadership that pushes us forward while still considering a human being as such. Balance is key.

Big Idea #3: Good vs. Bad Leadership (Photo 3)

True leadership is about sacrificing yourself for other people, not using other people to your own benefit, and status improvement. According to Sinek, leadership is not just a social rank as in today’s world, there are many people at the top of organizations that are not true leaders, while others at the bottom of them are from what he saw.

To achieve good leadership, you should balance your oxytocin levels with your dopamine ones so that you strive to become a better person while at the same time don’t only look at some materialistic goals you might achieve. When those chemicals are in balance, people will feel good; that’s why he also suggests socializing with real people instead of spending time over social media. When you socialize with real people or do volunteering, for example, you will produce serotonin and be a more effective leader.

Remember that being a leader comes with some costs as leaders always sacrifice their comfort to protect people. They do have a higher status for a reason so that when danger comes, they will step out to face the danger and protect their tribe. They have access to better resources and mating opportunities as well to make sure their gene pool replicates since true leaders are at a higher risk of death. If you want to be a leader, become comfortable with this idea as everything comes with its own cost.

A Relatable Example

The true leaders of history have been the ones that back then went to fight along with their soldiers to defend their values. Those leaders have been rare in history, but the ones that we can remember are Marcus Aurelius, Mahatma Gandhi, Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy, Mother Teresa, and many more. Those leaders have all one thing in common; they cared about their fellow so much that they were willing to sacrifice their lives for them.

Big Idea #4: Trust and Empathy are Essential (Photo 4)

If you don’t develop your emphatic side and you keep not caring about others, you can create a lot of harm in this world, especially if you’re a leader. Not having enough empathy towards another human being causes abstraction where the consequences of our actions would seem less real than they actually would. This especially happens when two people are physically further away from themselves.

What Sinek advises is not to prioritize your own interests with respect to other people’s ones as this attitude would make us do actions at other people’s expenses. To inspire trust in other people is also necessary for you to possess integrity. Honesty and trust are the elements that will make the difference when it comes to creating sustainable human relationships. In the end, Sinek adds, our natural predisposition is to trust people and cooperate with them.

A Relatable Example

The Milgram experiment showed how distancing ourselves from people makes us less empathetic towards them. That’s why online communities are not a great way to bond as the larger the proximity between you and somebody, and the larger the perceived difference with less empathy. Try to relate more to people in real situations and to become a more whole individual. People will perceive you more as a leader, they can trust and with whom they can naturally bond.

Big Idea #5: Companies should put people first (Photo 5)

The success of a company lies both in the culture of the company and on managing finances. The culture anyway is the first step as it permeates every aspect of it; in fact, when you instill trust and collaboration amongst people, you’ll see bigger profits in the long-term. Being part of a group makes us feel safe while feeling alone makes us feel selfish and makes us dehumanize others.

A true leader of a company should create a culture that inspires trust, and that makes people feel safe as a company is just like a tribe of people striving for a mutual goal and mutual values. The rules of tribe leadership then must be transposed to company leadership as well if we want to create long-lasting and healthy companies.

True leaders understand that their job is to serve people that follow them at the cost of responsibility and sacrifices. That’s the culture in the Marine environment where seniors Marines are always the ones eating last, thus making sure their junior members’ needs are met. Put your needs last, and you’ll be a leader. A great way to do this is by having a vision for the future and inspiring others to follow you by keeping people cohesive. Give people a purpose to fight for and fight along with them on that purpose.

A Relatable Example

Jack Welch in General Electric would fire 10% of the lowest-performing managers every year to improve the company’s performance and reputation. Anyway, the environment created by such a kind of attitude was one of competition instead of collaboration. There is enough evidence to prove that the carrot and sticks system doesn’t work to keep the company’s health, as true motivation is not based on obligations. This makes people leave their jobs more frequently, apart from sub-communicating that the company is putting profits before people and not the reverse.

Conclusion & Takeaway

We are not alone in this world, and as people, we must recognize that we can’t do everything by ourselves. That’s where the elements of empathy and collaboration come into play, making us humans stronger than we can ever be alone.

My Personal Advice (Book Summary’s Writer Photo)

My personal advice this time is to start putting those principles into practice in the small community where you can be a leader. This could just mean your family or if you have some friends, your social circle, depending on how socially connected you are. Practice is always essential to learn new lessons in life, so I invite you to see for yourself how applying those principles will improve your life.

At the same time, he started doing videos he was working at a hot dog stand to support himself while on this new journey. He said that for him a prestigious career didn’t matter and that all he wanted to do was videos that, at the beginning consisted of commenting Minecraft and Call of Duty.

4: His Success

To start with his career, he first sold some photoshopped pictures he had created to purchase the equipment he needed to develop his youtube videos. At the beginning of his career, he focussed on commenting horror and action video games mostly. He had registered on youtube back on 2006 and just in 6 years he grew to 1 Million subscribers that, at the time, was a considerable number.

5: 5 Tips to Succeed

Tip #1: Follow Your Dreams

Do not do what your mom wants you to do, or your dad wants you to do, live for yourself, and enjoy life. If you don’t make your own decisions in life, someone else is going to make them for you, and it will be hard for you to find happiness. Stop blaming others for having pushed you to make certain decisions and start taking responsibility for your own choices and actions because it’s you that you have to share your happiness and truth with.

Your path to success won’t be and can never be precisely the same as somebody else. This means that you have to stop looking to outside sources of validation and examples to follow step-by-step because there’s no success formula other than doing what you believe you must do at each specific moment, following your passion and trusting your gut. Have other people done what you want to accomplish?

If not, how come you should even listen to their advice? If you want to listen to somebody at least do it with somebody that has already achieved the success you want to have. Don’t do things just for the money because once you get the money, you won’t feel fulfilled and, worse than ever, you wouldn’t have enjoyed the process either. Have fun, do what you like, love, or gives meaning to your life, listen to your gut because it already knows what you should do.

Tip #2: Improve Your Self-Image

How you see yourself will highly determine the magnitude of your success. Who do you believe to be? How well do you consider yourself to be? How much self-esteem do you have? Improving your self-image and having a positive view of yourself will be a total game-changer for you, especially if you’ve been struggling with low self-esteem in the past.

Accept who you are and do not care about what others have to say about you as everybody in this world has imperfections that make each person unique. The problem is that if you let those people determine your self-esteem, then they’ll also be in control of your destiny.

Tip #3: Be Yourself

Being yourself means expressing your true nature and being regardless of what others think or want you to be. If you have something deep within you that you want to express or do do it as in the case of PewDiePie, it can bring you to success. Apart from this, being yourself isn’t as rewarding as behaving in ways that people would like you to behave.

Tip #4: Take Risks and Work Hard

Success won’t knock on your door if you don’t put the required effort to make it happen because that’s how things work in our world. We’ve been conditioned to believe that merely wishing things will make them happen in our lives, but that’s not true. You still need to move your feet in the direction you want to go, and only then you’ll be able to maximize the likelihood that you will achieve your goals.

Tip #5: Think that Everything happens for a Reason

This mindset is going to help you go through the hard periods of life when everything seems to go the wrong way. This mindset enables you to keep a positive attitude, especially when you have problems. Problems are there to make us grow, and it’s all a part of the human growth process to have problems and to go through them with your head high.

6: Favorite Quotes

  • “Life is too short to do things that you don’t like.”
  • “Don’t be a salad, be the best damn broccoli you could ever be.”
  • “Money can’t buy you happiness, but it buys you all the things you don’t have, even friends.”
  • “You have to be honest, you can’t love someone out of sympathy.”

7: 3 Lessons we can learn from his story

Lesson 1: Think out of the box

Who could ever say that by becoming a YouTuber, a guy could make such a massive amount of money? By thinking out of the box in terms of having a career, he made one that has been much more rewarding (both personally and financially) than most jobs.

Lesson 2: Following Your Passion can make you win

PewDiePie didn’t just open a YouTube Channel. He opened such a channel on what he liked the most, the gaming world. His passion for it motivated to get him up and produce content that wasn’t only high quality but also entertaining, creating a recipe for success.

Lesson 3: Try out new things and have fun

During an interview, he pointed out that he wanted to try different video games apart from Call of Duty that was one of the most popular at the time. Why? Just for fun, according to him. Now, can you believe that only by having fun you can become successful? Well, in today’s age, that’s possible, and PewDiePie is just an example of that. Explore just for the pleasure of exploring as you never know where this can lead you.

8: Curiosities

  • He created his business by himself, refusing to hire any other collaborator that would work for him.
  • In December 2016 he made $15 Million from Youtube earnings
  • His original name PewDie came from “pew” that, according to him, represents the sound of lasers “die” refers to death.
  • He used to work on a hot dog stand during the beginning of his youtube career.
  • Kjellberg won a Guinness World Record certificate for becoming the most subscribed YouTuber.

9: Conclusion

PewDiePie is probably the most successful YouTuber to date. With his whopping net worth of $30 million accumulated thanks to his more than 23.5 billion views, sales of merchandise, sponsors and more, he is one of the richest YouTubers of history. He is the living proof that by mingling passion and leveraging the advent of new market trends, you can make a massive career off yourself and that a job doesn’t necessarily mean a predetermined path to follow.

He was born in Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY on June 30, 1966, the city where he later moved with his family when he was only 10 years old due to the enormous financial burdens they were going through.

His father left Mike’s family when he was born, leaving the mother to raise him alone even though she died when he was only 16. After that Tyson lived his life on the streets, committing some crimes, mainly consisting of getting into fights. When he was 13, he had already been arrested 38 times.

Career and Struggle

When he went to Tryon School for Boys his boxing abilities had been noticed by the boxer Bobby Stewart that trained him for a time before introducing him to Cus D’Amato that became his manager and boxing trainer. Tyson dropped out of school at this point and focussed on his boxing career where he made around 15 fights on his first year as a professional fighter.

His Success

Aged 18, he made his first professional debut, defeating Hector Mercedes via TKO. He later won 26 of his 28 matches by TKO. Due to his high success rate, he was already being labeled as the next heavyweight champion. He then won many other fights with much bigger opponents like Jesse Ferguson that he defeated by TKO at the sixth round.

At this point, he was ready to go on with his career and shoot for the heavyweight undisputed champion title. On August 1, 1987, he became the first heavyweight to own the WBA, WBC, and IBF belts. The subsequent fights in 1988 were the most important and decisive for his success. He faced Larry Holmes and defeated the former champion by KO, the only one he experienced after 75 fights.

Later he fought Michael Spinks that was considered the one to be legitimate of the heavyweight champion title. When Tyson-Spinks was arranged, it was the wealthiest fight in history at the time, and also the one with the highest expectations. Anyway, it was a very short fight; in fact, Tyson defeated Spinks only after 91 seconds by KO.

5 Tips to Succeed

Tip #1: Hard work, Sweat, and Sacrifices.

You have to put in the work and make sacrifices if you want to become successful. Almost nobody made it without throwing sweat and putting hours on your craft. That’s how life works, but if you work, you can definitely beat talent as it does not exist according to Tyson.

Tip #2: Be humble

He says that the older you get in life, the more you learn humbleness and that if you don’t come humbly in this world, it will throw humbleness upon you. How many people have you seen becoming successful but being so arrogant that the only success they got was a financial-related or career one? Luckily those are not the only things that matter in life as there are family, friends, and partners; in general, human beings. If you’re not humble, you’ll have a hard time connecting with others and, you’ll suffer from a shallow existence.

Tip #3: Be Confident

He used to say that whenever he got closer to the ring, the more confident he started to become when he was on the ring, he was invincible. Confidence is essential to succeed in life and the more confidence you have, generally, the more successful you’ll become. Having confidence will also give you an aura of power that will be intimidating to the majority of your competitors.

Tip #4: Eat Life for Breakfast

You can’t just go over your goal like a baby that is scared of conquering them. You have to eat them alive, take them, own them, and make them yours with aggression. Tyson was the king in that as he used to attack his opponents with so much hostility that it seemed like he had them for breakfast. Don’t be scared of displaying your aggression to the world, be aggressive, and take what’s yours and if life intimidates you, be even more intimidating to it.

Tip #5: Learn to fail and to lose

“Life is about losing,” Tyson said during an interview, pointing out that we have to become comfortable with the idea of losing in life because when we grow up, we lose our hair, or teeth, our family members, our youth and so on. You need to become comfortable with the idea of losing and failing, and you must pass through those moments with courage and determination because they are part of life and are going to touch everybody sooner or later.

Favorite Quotes

  • “The closer I get to the ring, the more confident I become.”
  • “Talent? I don’t believe in talent.”
  • “When I come out, I have supreme confidence, but I’m scared to death.”
  • “I won’t do anything unless I’m passionate about it.”
  • “I think I was born to fight as I have no interest in anything else.”

3 Lessons we can learn from his story

Lesson 1: Do what you love

Like many successful people say, Tyson was always aware that spending your life doing something that you don’t like is just pointless as you can’t just do the things you do for the money. One day you will be on your deathbed (hopefully), and you will naturally think back of all the things you’ve done and, out of those, which ones have given you the best feelings. If you, on the other hand, will have lived a life where all you’ve done was just for the money, you will probably have a feeling of having lived a purposeless life. You have to find your inspiration in life, and motivation will never be a problem for you anymore.

Lesson 2: Push hard, no matter what.

Tyson didn’t get a comfortable life. With his father abandoning him when he was just born and his mother dying at age 16, he had no option but to fight for what he wanted or to live a criminal life and to get in and out of jail continuously (or even risking staying there for longer). He chose to fight and to push as hard as he could to live a life that was worth living, no matter what. If this meant going to training every day and suffering both physical and psychological pain, that was what he had to go through.

Lesson 3: Use fear to your advantage

Fear is a feeling that everybody gets in life as we’re conditioned to feel scared when we do things that put us at risk or that put us in conditions where we might feel physical or psychological pain. Fear anyway is a double-edged sword, it can freeze you and make you live a miserable life, or it can propel you towards achievements that you could’ t imagine to be possible. Tyson always felt scared before a fight, but he never let the fear stop him from doing what he had to do; instead, he used it as a way to fuel himself to victory.

  • Tyson’s trademark move was a right hook to his opponent’s body followed by a right uppercut to his opponent’s chin.
  • He claims not to have had sex for five years to keep his energy high for the fights.
  • In 1989 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in human letters.
  • He is a supporter of the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump.
  • He has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Mike Tyson was one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of history, known for his aggressive style in and out of the ring. Thanks to his skills as a fighter, he managed to accumulate a fortune of $300 Million that, due to bad financial decisions, reduced it to his current net worth of just $3 Million.

Dana White’s Net Worth (Updated 2019)

Name:Dana Frederick White Jr.
Birth Date:July 28, 1969 (age 50)
Net-Worth:$500 Million
Spouse:Anne White
Zodiac Sign:Leo

Interesting Inception

Dana White is the President of the biggest fighting league worldwide, the UFC, that nowadays is present in more than 175 countries with over 400 events held worldwide. With a skyrocketing career and a net worth of $500 + Million, White is one of the most successful businessmen in the U.S.

Early life

Even if you might have seen him working in the States, he was born in Manchester after which he moved to Massachusetts where he spent his youth. White has always been a fan of sports, but fighting was his favorite; he started practicing boxing aged 17.

Career and Struggle

He became UFC President because he once met the owner of its parent company that wanted to sell it back in 2001. White, becoming aware of the potential sale, contacted a childhood friend of him, Lorenzo Fertitta that at the time was a commissioner of the Nevada State Athletic Commission as well as a wealthy entrepreneur. Eventually, he asked him if he was interested in acquiring the company. Lorenzo, together with his brother, finally acquired the UFC and later White was appointed as the ‘company’s President.

His Success

The UFC became more and more famous every year, making White wealthier and more influential in the fighting businesses. Then one day, the UFC (being a subsidiary of Zuffa) was sold to a consortium of investors for US$4.025 billion out of which $362 Million went to White (that was the capital gotten from his shares). Even though he exited from the company, he still serves as a president of the same to date and oversees its management and marketing. Dana White made fighting a worldwide business through UFC and in return, it made White one of the most influential men in the sports industry nowadays.

5 Tips to Succeed

Tip #1: Put in the Work

Things ‘won’t come to you if you ‘don’t put the required effort to make them happen just because our world is ruled by the laws of cause-effect to which everybody must abide. Forget about getting a free lunch, work, and keep working until you succeed because the less you work and the harder things will become.

Tip #2: Timing is essential

Sometimes we want to do things just because of the desire to get quick results. The reality though, most of the times, is that in our world almost nothing works when things are rushed and forced instead of going for a steady and timed process. There is a time, and a space for everything and what you have to realize is that when synchronicities start to happen, and things seem to be falling into the right place, ‘that’s precisely the time to make them happen. The fact that boxing was going down when White met Fertitta, and there was this opportunity to purchase the UFC is a perfect example of timing that brought success instead of a stubborn act based on a rush and quick results.

Tip #3: Know how to serve

The competition will always be there to try to take the space ‘you’re occupying in the market. To avoid being defeated by it (or never to occupy the necessary space you need to survive), you have to know that the quality of the content you create is essential to ensure your success because people always have options (unless you have a legalized monopoly). Dana knows that he has to keep people entertained and engaged in his shows on a Saturday night, with all the other things that people can do on that day like going out with friends, women or merely watching different shows.

Tip #4: Have a Plan

Do not worry too much about what everybody else does as this can distract you from your goals and their achievement. Focus on your path and think about how you can get closer and closer to where you want to be, without trying to emulate other people. If you do this ‘you’ll always find yourself behind others as when you copy somebody, you ‘can’t get beyond to where they are.

Tip #5: Believe in what you do

Dana, when joining the UFC along with his friend Lorenzo Fertitta ‘couldn’t know for sure that this sport could have become such a huge phenomenon. In any case, he believed in the athletes, in fighting as a business and had the ambition to make this become one of the most popular sports ever. Nowadays, the UFC can be considered one of the most significant sports leagues out there and, one day; it will probably become even more popular than some leagues like the NFL.

Favorite Quotes

  • “Fighting is the first sport ever, and it will be the last sport ever.”
  • “The first thing you have to do when you start a business is to know exactly who you are and what is your game plan.”
  • “Everything in life has to do with timing.”
  • “Content is king, and owning content has always been the way to go.”
  • “If I was into money, I was still standing in the lobby of the Boston Harbor Hotel.”

3 Lessons we can learn from his story

Lesson 1: Nothing happens overnight

It took White 13 years to make the UFC as big as it is nowadays. Before his advent into the company, the UFC was already around for other 7 years. Make the math and ‘you’ll understand that what you see today is nothing but the result of 20 years of hard work and dedication. If you still believe in overnight success (apart from winning the lottery) then think again as nothing genuinely successful is an overnight success.

Lesson 2: Do it for the authenticity

White complained that the boxing business was becoming fake and that many fighters, due to their high retributions (often several million), preferred not to injure themselves during the fights so that they could do more of them and make more money. That, of course, impaired the quality of the shows as when both fighters try not to get hurt, you can imagine what a fight can come out.

White prevented this in the UFC by giving fighters incentives every time they won a fight or performed the best K.O. of the night. This way, he ensured that they were motivated to destroy the opponent with as much spectacularity as possible rather than playing with it for the money.

Lesson 3: Do something you love

White ‘didn’t join UFC because he wanted to become rich first. He did it because he was always passionate about the fighting world and because he wanted to make it mainstream, a thing that he had to make happen by showing courage and walking out there in the world offering this product. If it were for the money, he would have probably remained poor as he says during an interview.

  • In 2011, White donated $100,000 to his former high school to fund renovations to their athletic facilities.
  • The mob chased him out of Boston as it asked him to pay $2,500, but White ‘didn’t have the money.
  • He is friend with the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump.
  • Sometimes he uses to fight verbally with his UFC fighters. Once he was even about to fight Tito Ortiz.

Dana White is one of the most crucial figures in the fighting business nowadays. Starting from nothing, only with a massive passion for the fighting world and the ambition to make it popular all over the world, he climbed the success ladder accumulating notoriety and respect, apart from his massive fortune of more than $500 Million.

Birth Date:November 4, 1969 (age 49)
Occupation:Rapper, Actor, Songwriter, Record Producer, Entrepreneur
Net-Worth:$855 Million
Zodiac Sign:Scorpio

Interesting Inception

Many people in the world call themselves (or are called) self-made men but only a few deserve such a title. Surely P Diddy is one of those. If we see from where he started and where he’s now, we can surely consider him a self-made man, being the second wealthiest rapper in the world.

Early life

Sean Combs was born in Harlem, NY on November 4, 1969, but raised in Mt.Vernon NY only from his mother since his father had died (by shooting) when he was only 2. His business predisposition wasn’t hard to reveal as he started by selling newspapers only at the age of 12. He then went to study at Howard University, a historically black university in Washington DC from which he never managed to graduate as he dropped out during his sophomore year.

His career started as an intern at Uptown Records in New York even though after some time he became an executive where he discovered new artists as a talent director. He also became vice president of the company even though he got fired from the company in 1993. He later created his own record label, Bad Boy records signing artists like Usher, TLC, Faith Evans, Machine Gun Kelly, Notorious B.I.G., Ma$E, 112, and more.

His Success

On July 1, 1997, his debut album No Way Out was released under the name of “Puff Daddy” and reached number 1 on the billboard 200 on the first week of its release that eventually sold over seven million copies and has been certified 7 times platinum. In the same year, his record label had already sold almost $100 Million in recordings.

In 1998 he was nominated 5 times at the 40th Grammy Award and won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in the same year. In the same year, he started his clothing line Sean John that was later nominated for the Council of Fashion Designers of America award for Menswear Designer of the Year in 2000.

In 2001 he changed his name from “Puff Daddy” to “P. Diddy” and took complete control of Bad Boy Entertainment after ending its joint venture with Arista Records. The last album released by the joint venture was “The Saga Continues” on July 10 2001 that reached number 2 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified platinum.

He is not only a successful rapper as he also moved into the businesses of clothing lines, movie production, and restoration. His clothing label Sean John, is where P Diddy makes the majority of his money. In 2001 Combs started his acting career in films such as Made and Monster’s Ball.

In 2002 he was listed by Fortune Magazine as number 12 amongst top 40 entrepreneurs under 40. He is the CEO of Combs Enterprises. In 2005 he starred in Carlitos Way: Rise to Power and sold half of his record company to Warner Music Group. On October 17 2006 he released his album “Press Play” after 4 years that was certified Gold on the RIAA ratings.

In 2013 he launched Revolt, a digital cable television centered into music videos, music news and interviews related to the topic. In 2015 together with Mark Wahlberg, he partnered to purchase a majority holding in Aquahydrate, a calorie-free beverage for athletes.

To date, he won 3 Grammy awards and 2 MTV Music awards apart from many other prizes

5 Tips to Succeed

Tip #1: Fail Big

“Some of my biggest successes came because of my biggest failures.” When you fail, you inevitably find yourself in certain situations where you have only two choices: accept your situation and give up or fight back and find a way out of it. “When you’re in darkness you wanna sit there and wait for the light to come. When you’re in the darkness, it feels uncomfortable, but you can’t wait and sit in that darkness, the only way out is to step forward, face your fears and become your own light.”

Tip #2: Look for information & know how things work

Back in the cavemen times he said, it was all about surviving and getting your butt warm. If you knew somebody who could light a fire, then you’d be able to thrive. This today translates for him to be always around people and information as that’s where the power comes from. “A degree means something to me, but experience means more.”

Make sure that the actions that will bring you toward your goals are really sound and based on reality rather than on a successful fake model of reality that could have been conveyed to you by unconscious people. Everybody wants to be successful, but because of that there’s a lot of competition, that’s why you have always to know where you’re getting yourself into.

Tip #3: Believe

During an interview, he was asked: “What do you believe the most”? His answer was, “I believe in God and after that myself.” As many successful people in the world, he strongly believes in himself, and it’s no surprise that thanks to his belief, he managed to get to where he’s gotten. “I just feel I’m one of the baddest motherf**kers to ever walk the face of the earth. That’s just a fact, that’s just a pure fact.”

Tip #4: Accept the fear but go through it

It’s normal to feel fearful in life at times as that’s part of who we are; anyway, this doesn’t mean that we should let the fear hold us back from what we want to achieve. For that reason, you always have to go through the fear if you really want to become a better version of you.

Tip #5: Love what you are doing

He many times stated that he always loved what he was doing. “I think everybody can do what they love doing if they go after it with love.” He also stresses the importance of doing things for others rather than just doing them for himself, fame, or money. “If you do it to make history, to change people’s lives, to make people feel good, it’s gonna come naturally.”

Favorite Quotes

“If I give the customers my best and service them differently, whether music, clothing, or vodka, I’ll get a return on my hard work.”

“But whatever I do, I want it to be groundbreaking. I think of everything I do as history in the making.”

“Don’t be afraid to close your eyes and dream but then you have to open your eyes and see the reality of what’s gonna take for you to achieve that dream.”

3 Lessons we can learn from his story

Lesson 1: Be aggressive in business

Combs never gave up even though he experienced many failures and was fired from his job at Uptown Records. He didn’t let those event bury him but he took them as lessons to be even more aggressive in his business ventures, so much that he later became a real entrepreneur by expanding himself hugely in various markets.

Lesson 2: Don’t be scared to dream big

Everything that he did was first conceptualized in his mind as a high magnitude goal. He always wanted to make the difference and, in fact, he did by dreaming bigger than probably 99,9% of people. That was surely a great factor helping him accumulate his $855 Million fortune.

Lesson 3: Think of yourself as a winner

Even when he was a nobody, he felt like he was already somebody. That high self-esteem, coupled with his high drive to win were the two most essential ingredients that contributed to his lifetime of success.

  • In 2007 he agreed to help develop Cîroc Vodka in exchange of 50% of all sales.
  • He owns a $7 Million home in New Jersey and a $14.5 Million home in Miami Beach.
  • He loves playing basketball and watching movies. sleeps with 15 pillows every night
  • He has a collection of super expensive vehicles amongst which the most expensive Rolls Royce on the market.
  • He is so afraid of clowns (coulrophobia) that he made a contractual agreement stating not to allow clowns where he’s performing.
  • He received an Honorary Doctor of humanity degree from Howard University in 2014.
  • He used to be a doorman at Marriot hotel while enrolled in college
  • He learned about his true father death cause when he was in college; Shot to death (real cause) vs. car accident (fake cause)
  • His $40 million mansion in the Holmby Hills LA is situated next to the playboy one.

Sean Combs has been one of the greatest rap music influencers in history. His lifetime of success wasn’t a random cause but a series of achievements rendered possible by his great business mind, drive to win and courage to dream big. If there’s an adjective that truly fits this man is self-made as from the lowest class he climbed the ladder until he got to be the second richest rapper in the world.

Dan Bilzerian’s Net Worth (Updated 2019)

Name:Dan Brandon Bilzerian
Nickname:Blitz, Instagram Playboy King.
Birth Date:December 7, 1980 (age 38)
Occupation:Web Influencer, Gambler.
Net-Worth:$150+ million
Zodiac Sign:Sagittarius

Dan Bilzerian is probably one of the most provocative web influencers nowadays because of the opulent and mundane lifestyle he shows. With his 28 million Instagram followers and with an accumulated net worth of $150+ million, he is one one of the wealthiest web celebrities on the planet.

Early life

He is the son of Paul Bilzerian and Terry Steffen, both corporate takeover specialists that grew up in a middle-class family before his father made it big in Wall Street. At first, Dan wanted to become a Navy Seal; thus, he enrolled in the program that unfortunately never managed to complete. He was eventually kicked out of the program because he adopted unsafe measures when practicing shooting with the weapons. After his dropout, he enrolled in the University of Florida to study business & criminology, from which he graduated.

His career started as a poker player, and, while he was enrolled in high school, he taught himself how to play the game along with the help of his brother Adam. He later advanced in his poker career by playing in the World Series of Poker.

His Success

At the age of 26, he was already making more than 80k per week, making college a non-essential path to follow for him. After that, he started his “Instagram thing” as he calls it, just to “get laid without talking.” Eventually, that thing became one of the most significant accounts ever-amassing more than 15 Million followers in less than five years, naming him the “King of Instagram.”

Once he became famous on Instagram, it wasn’t difficult for him to leverage his popularity to make even more money. Thanks to his influencer power, he is making money selling women’s clothing, marijuana (where legal) and vapes with his brand ignite.

5 Tips to Succeed

Tip #1: Do whatever it takes

His most noticeable attitude towards life is one where if he has a goal to reach, he’ll do whatever it takes to achieve that goal. It doesn’t matter if people are going to criticize him or if it is considered hard; if he wants it, he’ll make it happen somehow.

Tip #2: Be relentless

Sometimes we want to get from point A to point B, but that isn’t always easy, and we might encounter many roadblocks along the path. This doesn’t mean that you should be discouraged or that you should start second guessing yourself if what you want is there in front. Why should something stop you if you have a pure dream that you want to reach?

Tip #3: Be honest

One of his secrets to success with women is his honesty with them. He says that if women see you’re honest with them, even when you tell them the things that they don’t necessarily want to know, then you’ll build trust with them and have higher chances of sleeping with them and keeping them around you.

Tip #4: Set up your ideal life

Another strategy he adopts to keep women around him that are engaged and interested most of the times is by creating an environment where he is the ruler. He does that by throwing parties with low male-female ratios (1/10 according to him). For example, in parties where there are 30 of his friends he brings around 200-300 beautiful women that will be prompted to compete for the attention of all the males. When you create such environments where you are always the winner, there’s nothing you can do but win all the time.

Tip #5: Don’t be afraid of rejection

Finally, his last take on how to become successful is never to be fearful of rejection, not only with women but generally speaking in life. When you can make yourself vulnerable to rejection and expose yourself to it many times, then you’ll face your life with much more aggressiveness, fearlessness, and confidence, elements that will highly improve your chances of success in any area of it.

Favorite Quotes

  • “Shooting drones because it’s Sunday and this is America.”
  • “If I wanna go to Vegas in the middle of the night, then that’s just what I’ll do.”
  • “I only f**k 12s, unless I’m drunk, then maybe I f**k a 10.”
  • “Don’t take yourself too seriously.”
  • “I always tell girls the truth.”
  • “Chasing money and girls is not what makes you happy.”

3 Lessons we can learn from his story

Lesson 1: Be Yourself

Even though many people hate Dan Bilzerian, he doesn’t stop being who he is or doing what he loves doing. He understands that being yourself is not only the best way to become successful but is also a way to live a rewarding life that is based on truth rather than on falsehood.

Lesson 2: Take risks

We can see that from the way Dan has conducted his life so far, risk-taking has been a considerable element contributing to his success. He had this risky attitude embedded in everything he did, from bringing weapons with him during high school, to do things that the majority of people wouldn’t dare do, like betting $6 million in a single coin flip. He translated this high-risk attitude in his business and personal life as well, making him one of the wealthiest web influencers on the planet.

Lesson 3: Break the rules

When Dan was young, he didn’t let the school system dictate what he had to do and neither let the Navy Seals stop him from manifesting his extravagant behavior. Sure, those things cost him exclusion both from school and the Navy Seals program, but he eventually managed to become successful precisely because of this behavior of his.

  • He suffered two heart attacks from a viagra overdose.
  • He is said to have genius-level IQ.
  • He owns a 28 thousand square foot mansion.
  • He reportedly once lost $6 million in a coin flip.
  • He owns a $250.000 Rolls Royce along with many other cars.

Dan Bilzerian is one of the most notorious web personalities in the entire world. A controversial character that is both hated and admired by many people at the same time, a fact that helped him rise above the masses and accumulate his fortune of more than $150 million.

The Intelligent Investor Book Summary

Quick Summary

‘The Intelligent Investor’ by Benjamin Graham is a roadmap for any starting investor teaching the best practices to carry out as a beginner, as well warns the reader from the most common pitfalls one does when moving first steps into this world. This book has been defined as the “best book on investing ever written,” by the great Warren Buffett, thus making it the “bible” of investing.

Key Concepts

Let’s now explore together the key concepts expressed in the book.

Key Concept 1: Investment and speculation are two different things.

What an Investment is

An Investment is a transaction that after careful analysis and invest your money, you’re confident it will return you profits.

What Speculation is

The act of speculating is an attempt to predict rises and falls in the market. It’s always suggested to set aside a fund that you can afford to lose when speculating and never to mix your investment money with your speculation ones.

From the two definitions above, then, we can understand that merely participating in the market doesn’t make you an investor.

Key Concept 2: Beware of Inflation

Inflation can decrease the purchasing power of any money you earn. Inflation also influences the value of the stocks and of the bonds you hold. Generally speaking, though, stocks can withstand inflation better than bonds.

That’s the cardinal principle to follow but beware that when investing, nothing is 100% sure and thus diversification is always a better choice to protect yourself from inflation.

Ideally, there are two options that you can opt for to diversify your portfolio:

Option 1: Real estate investment trusts (REIT’s). Those are companies that own and operate income-producing properties.

Option 2: Treasury inflation-protected securities (TIPS). Those are government bonds that automatically scale with inflation.

Key Concept 3: Market can’t be predicted

Many investment experts in the 1990s said that stocks were more profitable than bonds. Anyway by 2002 most of those stock prices plummeted and thus many people lost the money they invested.

Basing present decisions on past events is one of the most common investing error that beginners make. Nobody can predict future market trends, not even the best investor worldwide.

The intelligent investor ideally buys when the market is low and sells when it’s high. This, most of the times, means going against the flow, but it’s a necessary habit to take the act of thinking independently. Always assume the worst when everybody else is rejoicing but stay positive when everybody else is low.

As a beginner investor, all you have to know is that you can’t control the market, but you can manage the risks you take, the fees you pay, your tax bills and your own choices.

The best choice you can make to avoid huge losses is the “dollar-cost averaging” where you contribute to an index fund each month automatically. In any case, it’s essential to control your emotions to make the difference in the quality of your investments as that’s the only thing you can control, rather than the market itself.

Key Concept 4: Enterprising vs. Defensive Investor

The enterprising investor builds his portfolio from scratch by adopting a more aggressive style. If that’s the path, you want to take though you must avoid the pitfall of buying and selling quickly (speculation). This usually happens with over excited investors (when buying overvalued stocks) and fearful investors (selling when the price drops).

When behaving like an enterprising investor remember to never put all your eggs in one basket and that temporary unpopularity can be a great opportunity. You can also buy foreign stocks to diversify your portfolio as they don’t follow your home market trends.

The defensive investor generally creates a steady and stable portfolio that performs automatically. All you have to do as a defensive investor is to decide where to put your money upfront, then adjust the percentages between stocks and bonds accordingly to market changes. Generally, a defensive investor should find and buy the right stocks as well, allocate a bit of your investment into predetermined stocks each month.

Index funds and mutual funds are the defensive investors best friends as they foresee diversification without maintenance. You have to put a little of your money into them and forget about the rest. What’s the best strategy? According to Graham, no style is better than the one that suits your personality.

Key Concept 5: Mutual Funds vs. Index Funds

Mutual funds are cheap, convenient, diversified, and professionally managed, but they are far from perfect. Mutual funds managers try to predict the market, and that’s not good at all based on what we said before. Moreover, they have higher trading fees and tax costs because they trade frequently.

Index funds such as the S&P 500 that hold all securities in a specific market are far better. They stay on track with the market instead of beating it with low fees and work when held for long periods. Index funds suffer from ups and downs, but in the long run, they outperform regular mutual funds.

Key Concept 6: Security Analysis

To make a sound security analysis, you should download several years of report of the companies you want to invest in. Generally, companies that are worth a lot should show steady and not erratic growth over the last decade. Judge the companies based on their management, for example, leadership decisions are preferred to be consistent and accounting practices transparent.

A simple tip to follow is to see if they earn more than they spend as generally a company’s debt should not exceed more than 50% of their total capital. Do not consider short term earnings of any company and focus on long term stability and growth. Dig deep before buying stocks and track them without purchasing at the beginning.

Key Concept 7: Margin and Safety

The intelligent investor refuses to lose the majority of their money when investing. This means that you should decide a portion of your money that you want to invest and never go below that portion. Do not take risks you cannot afford to take as that’s the surest way to fail both in the short and in the long run.

Conclusion & Takeaway

Being a successful investor is not as difficult as it seems if you follow those basic principles. The most important thing you should take away from this summary is that you should learn to manage risk. One way to do this is ignoring the mood swings of the market and by keeping your emotions under control so that each decision you’ll make will be based on rationality and a long term approach. Forget about predicting the market as that’s something unrealistic and doomed to bring you to failure, focus on what you can control instead.

Stan Lee’s Net Worth (Updated 2019)

Name:Stanley Martin Lieber
Nickname:Stan Lee
Birth Date:December 28, 1922 – November 12, 2018 (aged 95)
Occupation:Comic Book Writer, Producer.
Net-Worth:$50 million
Spouse:Joan Boocock
Zodiac Sign:Capricorn

If you’ve read a Marvel comic or if you’ve ever seen a Marvel movie, then you’ve come across Stan Lee’s work. He is the man that made many people dream as he creates iconic figures such as Spider-man, the Black Widow, the X Men, the Fantastic Four, Thor, Hulk and many more that eventually contributed to the creation of one of the most popular movie franchises ever created. As one of the greatest storytellers and producers of all times, he managed to accumulate a fortune of more than $50 million.

Early life

He was born on December 28, 1922, in Manhattan, New York City, the son of two poor Jewish immigrants. As a child, he reportedly showed interest for books and movies, probably also because due to his small size and younger age compared to his high school friends, he struggled to make friends and spend most of his time daydreaming about his favorite movies and escaped into fantasy.

Later he started working as an usher at The Rivoli, a movie theatre in New York. With this job, he managed both to alleviate the financial stress his parents were going through and also to amuse himself as he could watch as many movies as he wanted for free. It was during this time that he sensed that a right career path for him would be the one of a screenwriter or movie actor.

At 15 he entered a high school writing contest promoted by the New York Herald Tribune after which he started writing full time, under the suggestion of the journal’s editor. So he eventually graduated very young from high school and entered the WPA Federal Theatre Project. Finally, he landed a job at Timely Comics when he was 16 as an assistant artist, only earning 8 dollars per week at the time that today in 2019 would correspond to about $145.

After some internal disputes within the company, Lee was put at the place of the creative director and head writer after they disagreed with Timely Comics publisher. During that period, Lee started to develop Captain America’s character while World War II was going on. He also went abroad to serve in the US army as a screenwriter but then went back to the US.

His Success

Once back in the US Timely Comics had already changed its name into Marvel Comics, where Lee was working full time. Unfortunately, then, during the mid 90′ comics that depicted crimes and fights (the genre that Lee liked to write about) was considered dangerous for civilians. Due to this, Lee was forced to write comics for children that were tedious for him.

He was about to leave the industry after years writing such comics, but he had to support his family, so he spoke to his wife that advised him to write comics destined for adults, where lee could put all his talent, even if it went against the censorship rules. So he did, and that’s how the Fantastic Four have come to birth, making Marvel more successful than expected.

Lee, seeing the impact that he was causing, continued to develop his characters, giving birth subsequently to Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, and the X Men. All those characters were a reflection of what was going on in the socio-political environment at the time they were created. San Lee was already a huge success and started touring and giving creative writing lessons across universities.

Today he has left us with a legacy of comics that have also been transposed into movies, impacting even more people worldwide and making Marvel one of the most successful comic businesses ever created.

3 Lessons we can learn from his story

Lesson 1: Follow your inspiration

Lee was passionate about movies and reading since he was young, thus possessing those inclinations naturally. He has been one of these men who never let go of their essence, in this case, a creative and fantasy one, fact that not only led him to a huge financial success but also a personal sense of accomplishment and purpose that no money can ever buy.

Lesson 2: Just Do It

When he first had the concept of Spiderman in his mind, his superior criticized the idea, pointing out that nobody likes spiders and a teenager with problems can’t be a superhero. Nonetheless, Lee went on and put the idea of Spiderman at the last pages of a book they were releasing that it became a best-seller. From this, we can learn that when you have a gut feeling that something’s going to work, probably it’s going to work, so do that something that you feel like doing.

Lesson 3: Be a Black Sheep

At the beginning of his career, he felt embarrassed writing comics as there were man building bridges, working in factories and fighting the war; real things according to him that brought actual results. After years he realized that his work brought so much joy to people that entertainment is vital in people’s lives as if you can take somebody’s mind out of their problems that’s a good thing.

5 Tips to Succeed

Tip #1: Have Fun

To keep yourself creative, you should go to it with the mindset of having fun. If you can keep yourself amused and enjoy the process of doing what you do, then your creative flow will always stay with you, exactly like in the case of Stan Lee. Don’t believe Stan’s right? Albert Einstein thinks the same as he once said that “Creativity is intelligence having fun.”

Tip #2: Do what you like

If you create products that you like, then most likely than not you’ll find people that have the same tastes as yours. Do it for your own pleasure first as if you don’t like or believe in what you’re creating, how can you ever imagine that somebody else will? Then put a lot of attention in creating a good product, meaning to pay attention to the details and quality of the product.

Tip #3: Inject Warmth

He said that he felt that every other comic book had a good story and structure but lacked warmth. What he did instead was injecting warmth into the letters pages of his comics to make the kids feel like being a part of Marvel. Even if he got a letter with written “dear editor,” he changed it into “dear Stan” and instead of answering with “Dear Anthony, thanks for the letter.” he wrote, “Hey Tony thanks for the letter!”. This was a genius move from him as he understood that human relationships thrive on authentic connections.

Tip #4: Think Outside the Box

If you’ll ever start a business or do anything in life, be sure that there will be people doing the same thing as you. This means that you’ll have to directly compete with them unless you think outside the box. In our world, the only way to avoid direct conflict with another entity that provides similar products or services is by making ourselves different by being creative. If you can think outside the box, then there’s no space you’ll have to fight for as you’ll create your own space out of nowhere thanks to the infinite possibilities that our mind has to create something new.

Tip #5: Take Risks

Sometimes there were stories that Lee wasn’t sure about, anyway he always put them out taking the risk of not being liked by the public opinion. Anyway most of the times, whenever he jumped in the unknown, he had tremendous success. In life, there are times when you can’t help but take risks. You can’t predict how things will go, but if you can have enough courage to do what your heart tells you to do, you might hit the jackpot.

Ashton Kutcher’s Net Worth (Updated 2019)

Name:Christopher Ashton Kutcher
Birth Date:February 7, 1978 (age 41)
Occupation:Actor, Entrepreneur, Investor.
Net-Worth:$200 million
Spouse:Demi Moore (2005-2013), Mila Kunis (2015-present)
Zodiac Sign:Aquarius

Rendered famous thanks to his appearances in many sitcoms and romantic movies Ashton Kutcher is a successful American actor and entrepreneur.

Thanks to his dedication and interest in becoming more than just another pretty acting celebrity, today he is a successful entrepreneur and investor, amassing a fortune of $200 million.

Early life

He was born on February 7, 1978, in Iowa, son of 2 conservative factory workers, from which he learned the importance of working hard. During his teenage years, he didn’t like staying at home because his parents were fighting a lot at the time and because he didn’t want to hear bad news about his brother that was fighting with cerebral palsy.

When he was 15, his parents divorced, and they moved to another small town in Iowa, where Ashton Joined the high school drama. He was good at school, and he planned to become a geneticist so that he could research about heart infections so that he could stop the virus from which his brother had suffered from.

Anyway, his true aspiration was to become an actor but he didn’t have enough funds to let him pursue such a career, so he decided to join the MIT and pursue a biochemical engineering career. One day, he broke through his high school with a friend of his during his senior year to take a candy machine, but the police caught them and sentenced Ashton to 3 years of probation and 180 days of social service. He couldn’t joint he MIT anymore at this point, so after graduating from High-School he went to the university of Iowa but his ambition to become an actor still didn’t leave him.

When he was at the campus bar, he randomly met somebody that was working in a modeling agency that suggested him to try a competition that was held in New York. He entered the competition and won it, becoming a professional model working for Calvin Klein and other prestigious brands, apart from walking the fashion runways in Paris and Milan.

Ashton sensed that by taking the modeling journey he could have gotten many more opportunities to work as an actor and, in fact, after some months of modeling he was invited to L.A. to audition for a comedy show that was given to him right away.

His Success

He was good at it and thanks to a combination of his acting skills and beauty, he soon became a television star, flooded with work requests and girls asking him for autographs like kids do with candies. He later started appearing on the big screen in movies like “Just married” with Brittany Murphy with which he then got into a relationship with and made even more gossip and noise, contributing to the enhancement of his fame.

Later on, in 2004 he starred in “The butterfly Effect” proving his acting abilities again and making it hit the number one spot within the first week of its release. Anyway, this didn’t let him become an established dramatic actor as he didn’t manage to be taken seriously by the public; that’s when he moved into producing movies.

3 Lessons we can learn from his story

Lesson 1: Give it a Try

Ashton Kutcher didn’t know how the whole acting thing would have become real. He knew that by taking the modeling journey, he could have had some chances, anyway, that wasn’t sure or guaranteed. He gave it a try eventually, and it worked because whenever you do something proactively, the chances that this single path will bring you into another one are huge and when you’ll start to practice this you’ll understand what I mean. That’s been the case in most of my life journey so far too, so just give it a try!

Lesson 2: Listen to Your Heart

Ashton knew that he had to pursue this acting career somehow and that it would have given him the fulfillment and passion for keeping up with it. His instinct proved to be right, in fact through acting he has been able to impact many people worldwide apart from letting him pursue other career path such as the investor one.

Lesson 3: Don’t care about what others think

Do you think Ashton would have gotten into a relationship with Demi Moore if he cared too much about what others could have thought of him? Surely not. If he were too worried about the public opinion of getting into a relationship with a woman 15 years older than him that was also the wife of Bruce Willis, then he would have missed out on this magical life experience. Go your own way and let others talk as while they fill their mouths with stupid commentaries you’ll enjoy your life and even forget about them one day.

5 Tips to Succeed

Tip #1: Take Risks

Ashton Kutcher didn’t take his life in a comfortable way. Whenever he needed to step towards something that could give him more chances to succeed, he did it and reaped benefits. He quit school to become a model, after that he became an actor as he was bored performing as a model. That’s when he started to take more risks and to get himself involved in many other businesses as an investor.

Tip #2: Save your most precious advice

Sometimes in life, we hit moments where we might feel discouraged or when we don’t know what to do next. Those are natural moments for everybody to go through; nonetheless, to each problem, there is always a solution, right? Well, what if you can build a library of the most precious advice you can get from your mentors or successful people and acmes this library whenever you feel down? That would make you cope with your problems more efficiently and effectively as even if you are in a negative state, your advice to that problem won’t be influenced by both your mood and the mood of others, but it will just be a piece of objective advice.

Tip #3: Ask the right questions

Many people, when confronted with the opportunity to speak with a successful individual, waste their time asking them what their favorite color is or what they think about potential alien attacks. If you have the chance to speak to somebody that achieved success in some way, ask questions that will make them, you and other people discover something new, think about a new problem or see things from a different perspective.

Tip #4: Solve Problems

What he likes is solving problems and sometimes when you solve your own problems you solve somebody else’s problems. Instead of trying to sell people crap, try to make something that will make them feel better, and that will improve their lives. Either you do this on a small scale or on a bigger scale doesn’t matter, what matters is the intention behind your actions and that you start doing at least one thing to make somebody else’s life better. By doing something good for you and other people as well you’ll be a happy problem solver, and you’ll live in the most honorable way you can.

Tip #5: Be Yourself

You have to start understanding that a people-pleasing attitude is never going to make you happy and one day or another, you’ll need to confront yourself with your true nature, desires, and inclinations. The sooner you start putting into practice those things, the earlier you’ll grow up as an individual, and the better you’ll serve both yourself and the world you’re in.
